The rose
Let's talk about roses...
Every year, at the end of April, the Turkish valleys are adorned with thousands of Damascus rose flowers. For only a few weeks, the landscapes are covered in pink and the harvests are in full swing. Picking is mainly done early in the morning, when the flowers are richest in aromatic compounds. Once harvested, they are transported immediately to distilleries to preserve their quality.
A rather human industry
Behind each harvest are the skilled people whose indispensable expertise makes it possible to produce these high-quality products. Mindful about the working conditions of pickers and their families' well-being, we support, alongside our partner producer, a local association that helps improve their daily lives and offers a drop-in space for children to go to during harvest periods.
A rose hydrolat specially produced for Terra Provence
For many years, our partner has been producing an organic rose hydrolat exclusively for Terra Provence. Captured by steam distilling fresh Damascus rose flowers that are only harvested once a year, this hydrolat is 100% pure and natural, with no additions or transformations. Every May, we import several tonnes to meet demand. Even so, it is advisable to plan and reserve in advance.
One of the most precious essential oils in the world
An impressive amount of raw material is needed to produce rose essential oil. In fact, to obtain just 1 kg of essential oil, a minimum of 3,000 kg of fresh flowers must be distilled. This rarity explains why rose essential oil is among the most valuable essential oils in the world. Cherished for its floral, fresh and delicate fragrance, it is particularly sought after in the worlds of cosmetics, perfumery and well-being.
